Relocation Grant

We are excited to able to tell you that the prospect of a move to Albury, Armidale, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Tamworth or Wagga Wagga just got even more attractive, with the NSW Government's Regional Relocation Grant program.

Under the program, Sydney families who sell their home and relocate to regional NSW – including all seven of the Evocities - will receive a $7,000 grant.
Once you have sold in Sydney, you need to buy a home (principal place of residence) up to the value of $600,000 or vacant block of land up to the value of $450,000 in regional NSW.

In October 2012, the NSW Government amended the program to extend eligibility to people entering into a long-term lease arrangement. This enables retirees who sell their metropolitan home to be eligible for the grant when entering into a retirement village contract or lease.

In August 2013, the NSW Government announced proposed changes (effective January 2014) to the Regional Relocation Grant including a minimum distance requirement of 100 kilometres on relocations and extending the availability of the grant to people in metropolitan Sydney, Newcastle ad Wollongong with two (2) consecutive years rental history. This is fantastic news for those who have been priced out of the Sydney property market and makes a move to an Evocity even more appealing.

The NSW Government also proposes to bring forward legislation to introduce a new Skilled Regional Relocation Incentive. This new scheme is tied to secured employment and thus targets people in metropolitan Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong who will be bringing skills to regional local economies and the good news is that the NSW Government believes that this scheme should not be restricted to homeowners. It is proposed that the new employment-targeted incentive will be $10,000. The key requirements to qualify for this incentive may include the following:

  • Proof of at least 2 years residence in metropolitan Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong;

  • Proof of offer of employment in a region at least 100km from that prior residence;

  • Proof of bona fides of the job; and

  • Proof of relocation such as a residential lease, contract for purchase of house / land in the regional location or a signed declaration.

Applicants for the Skilled Regional Relocation Incentive will need to be employed in a regional area for a minimum of two (2) years to receive the full value of the grant. The incentive will be paid in two installments.
